INTRODUCTION OF BRIDGET AT COURSE "ENVIRONMENTAL GEOLOGY" - THE ARCTIC UNIVERSITY OF NORWAY

Bridget was presented during the course Environmental Geology (Geo3118) at the Department of Geoscience at the Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø.

The course, at the master level, attracts international students that do their master projects at UiT. Prof Alessandra Savini (UNIMIB), the PI of Bridget, described the project and provided a broad overview of methods that can be used in areas affected by human impact or natural hazards such as landslides or earthquakes. Themes were then further explored through practical examples. The students were very excited, also to learn that Bridget will organize another Bridget summer school on Mount Etna in 2023.

HOW VIRTUAL AND AUGMENTED REALITY CAN HELP US TO IMPROVE OUR KNOWLEDGE ON NATURAL RISKS TO REDUCE GEOHAZARDS

The fourth edition of "Giornata dell’Alfabetizzazione Sismica" (Seismic Literacy Day) on the 13th January, 2023 was a special open-door event to promote seismic awareness and preparedness in Italy. It was organized by INGV in various Italian cities to foster seismic prevention in order to reduce seismic risk. The event was also devoted to discussing actions to manage seismic and volcanic hazards using cutting-edge technologies. Seminars and tours were open to visitors of all ages.

The seminar "HOW VIRTUAL AND AUGMENTED REALITY CAN HELP US TO IMPROVE OUR KNOWLEDGE ON NATURAL RISKS TO REDUCE GEOHAZARDS", by Susanna Falsaperla and Danilo Reitano (INGV) described some activities of the BridgET project. The presentation was held at the INGV Osservatorio Etneo in Catania, which runs the 24h seismic and volcanic surveillance of the Aeolian Islands, Etna and Pantelleria. Here the improvement of natural risk management in potentially hazardous volcanic contexts makes the use of Augmented and Virtual Reality particularly effective. Furthermore, the seminar provided insight into the efforts of the BridgET project members, who give support to engage young people with emerging techniques on understanding the impact of environmental problems and their management.
